How I started writing personalised books
It has never crossed my mind that I shall ever become a writer. I always dreamed of being a journalist. I loved meeting new people and hearing their stories made me feel joy. I could somehow relate to each story I was hearing and that made me a good shoulder to cry on. Which has never bothered me. This made a good listener and a very painstaking journalist.
It wasn’t until I became a mother that I truly understood that I can do more with my gift. It all started with one little story I made up for Ilinca, my little daughter. I was trying to soothe her, nothing else worked until I invented this short story about a girl who lived by the sea and had got a boat as a present for her birthday. She stopped crying almost immediately. I was absolutely startled. It was then when I realised the power that stories have. After putting her to bed, I started to write down the story, but while writing it, I have noticed almost straightaway the resemblance between the little girl by the sea and Ilinca. I was actually using some of her unique features to picture the main character of my story. Framing her in a fictional narrative, I was able to come up with a fantastic story of my little daughter.
I was thrilled with joy. It occurred to me that everybody has a story, one of their own, the kind that deserves to be told. Personalised books are like that, they gather together unique features, dreams and hopes, anguishes and joys. I then pictured a mother receiving this fabulous gift from her daughter and how they’ll open this book after years and years. A husband reading his own tale gifted by his loving wife, how their eyes meet again while they both relive their love story. A friend who is so excited to having read his own tale that he can’t stop laughing.
Personalised books are not some ordinary books, they are magic. They are not just a gift, they are a one of a kind gift.
I truly believe so!
