Why I love writing personalised story books (and why I’d never picture myself doing something else)
I started writing personalised books for kids back in 2016 when my little girl was only a baby. It literally started with ONE story – hers. I wrote more about the episode in this article, but now I’m sharing with you the number one reason I absolutely love writing personalised books for kids (and why I’d never picture myself doing something else).
From being a journalist to creating personalised books for kids
I have always loved a good story and, truth be told, there was no way I could properly do this while being a journalist. I’ve been a dreamer ever since I can remember. There is no place for dreamers in this industry. It was literally crushing my soul.
So, it came as no surprise that, after becoming a mum, I gladly detached myself from this journey. I wrote my first personalised story while rocking my baby with one hand. With the other hand, I was vacuuming, because that would have usually put her to sleep in an instant (unfortunately, it didn’t work that particular night). That’s how I invented that FIRST tale. Not at all romantic, I know.
But was it fulfilling? Absolutely!
It is one of the biggest reasons I love my job! Writing personalised story books – getting to know all the amazing people I am writing about, making them happy, even making them cry tears of joy, it’s how rewarding this new chapter has been for me.
I would have written the story based on the main character’s unique traits, then illustrate it, create the layout and send it to print. It was a painstaking process nonetheless, but it’s how I pictured it to be. And my clients LOVED them!
Over the years, though, I realised there is simply not enough time in a day to write all the personalised books for kids I want to write and keep up with the deadlines. All while raising my own child from home.
So, instead, I came up with the idea of writing one story for hundreds of children. Each book with a different name. The same empowering and heartwarming message could now reach so many children!
That, my friend, was how a dream come true looks like!
And that is why I absolutely love writing personalised stories. They keep me happy and purposeful! And the most outstanding result is that they truly change lives for the better.
You see, stories also have the ability to soothe, to heal. They are being used in therapy for countless years already, with great success. I use stories to improve my own mum-daughter relationship. In fact, it’s why we launched a crowdfunding campaign back in March 2020, “Stories can Heal” with only one purpose in mind: to help as many children and families as possible through thoughtful storytelling.
So, I guess it’s fair to say that writing personalised books for kids is like a dream I never even knew I had and now I’m living it to its full potential.
It’s hard for me to imagine doing something else.
My brain is somehow wired to see stories everywhere. And just like singers use to make a jingle out of everything, I make a story instead. My little girl is such a blessing and an inspiration too!
Do you believe that some things are meant to be?
Well, now I do too.
Lots of love,
